Benefits of HIIT Exercises
You have probably been hanging out around the gym and heard the words “High Intensity Interval Training Workout” or “HIIT Exercises” and have been thinking to yourself, “What does that mean?”. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) involves short bursts of intense exercise with periods of rest or low-intensity exercise. HIIT exercises are great for those who have tight schedules but want to maximize their time spent at the gym. A typical High Intensity Interval Training workout lasts about 20 minutes, not including warmup.
So what does a High Intensity Interval Training workout look like?
An example of a High Intensity Interval Training workout would, say, involve jogging for 10 minutes, then start doing four four-minute intervals of running, with three-minute intervals of light jogging in between, and cooling down with a walk at the end. This High Intensity Interval Training workout should take 40 minutes to finish. Another example is doing 6 HIIT exercises, each for 30 seconds with 30 second rest between exercises, for 4 rounds with 1 minute rest between rounds.
HIIT workouts are great for losing weight. Studies have shown that you could burn as many calories doing HIIT exercises as you would doing the elliptical for 50 minutes. Plus, HIIT workouts are great for heart health. Intervals can enhance cardio-respiratory health with a smaller time investment compared to continuous forms of exercise. In addition, if you are short on time or don’t have time to go to the gym, HIIT is a time-efficient way to get the benefits associated with longer periods of traditional cardio that you can do almost anywhere.
